This is a cephalosporin antibiotic that works to treat skin, urinary tract, bone, and respiratory tract infections plus other susceptible infections. What are the benefits of Simplicef? Simplicef is usually given once a day but always follow your veterinarians instruction. Try to give with food. Complete all medication or symptoms may return or worsen. Only use this medication for the pet it has been prescribed for. Contact your veterinarian if you are unsure of how to give Simplicef correctly. How does this medication work? Simplicef works by stopping the bacteriascell wall production which will result in the death of susceptible gram-positive and gram-negative organisms. What results can I expect? Simplicef circulates through the body once it is absorbed through the intestinal tract. The blood stream then carries the medication to various organs in the body that are infected. All medication must be completed even though your pet might feel better sooner or symptoms can return or worsen. What form(s) does Simplicef come in? Simplicef is a film-coated tablet. Generic Name: Cefpodoxime proxetil (a cephalosporin) (Common Drug Name) Common Brand Name: Simplicef Dose and Administration: Make sure to administer Simplicef exactly as prescribed by your veterinarian. Simplicef is administered by mouth with food. If you forget a dose, be sure to give it as soon as can but do not double doses. Make sure you give the entire course of Simplicef that is prescribed or infection mayrecur or get worse. If you are unsure of how to give Simplicef correctly, contact your veterinarian. Only give this medication to the pet it has been prescribed for. Uses: Simplicef is used to fight susceptible infections primarily in the bone, urinary tract, and respiratory tract. Possible Side Effects: Simplicef is usually safe but some pets may experience inappetance. Vomiting, and/or diarrhea while on this medication. A true allergic reaction to Simplicef is rare but possible. If your pet is allergic, he/she may experience swelling, hives, itching, sudden onset of GI signs, shock, and pale gums. Other side effects may occur. If your pet act unusual in any way while on Simplicef, contact your veterinarian immediately. Drug and Food Interactions: Discuss medications and supplements your pet is taking with your vet as interactions are possible with Simplicef. Aminoglycosides (gentamicin, neomycin), amphotericin B, anticoagulants (blood thinners, such as heparin or warfarin), and probenicid may interact with Simplicef. Other interactions may occur. Precautions: If your pet is allergic to cephalosporins or penicillins, do not give Simplicef. Simplicef should not be given to pregnant or lactating animals (female animals nursing their young) since it passes through the milk. Pets with seizure disorders, epilepsy, or kidney disease should be given Simplicef cautiously and only as directed. Simplicef may cause a false-positive glucose test result with certain brands of urine test strips. Storage: Store Simplicef out of reach from children and pets at room temperature. A prescription from your veterinarian is required to purchase Simplicef. Size: 100 mg.
